“Pirates of Silicon Valley” - Reaction Paper

Computers, almost every home has one. We use it in almost everything we do. We use it on business and personal matters. Even the kids of today are addicted to computer games in cold air-conditioned rooms far from the kids of yesterday frolicking under the heat of the sun enjoying the day and playing in the fields with their playmates. Computers made our life easier, it lessens our workload, it entertains us and so much more. I can’t even think living a single day without one.

But when did it all started? When did we first enjoyed the presence of personal computers? Two names that are intangibly connected to computers, the co-founder, former CEO, and currently the chairman of the board of directors of the APPLE Company, Steve Jobs and the former wealthiest man alive, the co-founder, former CEO, and currently the chairman of the board of directors of the Microsoft Company, Bill Gates. This remarkable men helped shape and mold our future. They are the pioneers who created the gadgets and computers we all enjoy today such as IMac, IPad, IPod, and most of the computers’ operating systems, Windows and Mac OS. Their lives are reflected to the movie “Pirates of Silicon Valley”.

The movie shows us the life and the beginnings of Steve jobs and how the APPLE company was made, Bill Gates and how Microsoft strive to survive. They were both “drop outs” from college but using they skills and talents they moved forward and progressed. They showed us to not to stop our dreams and continue pursuing it until one day achieve it. Both of them worked hard to give us the feeling of having our very own personal computers. Steve Jobs made the Macintosh which is one of the best-selling personal computer nowadays and Bill Gates created the operating system which most of us are using, the Windows OS. They serve us our inspiration, we should be the same.

“The Social Network” - Reaction Paper

Of all the the social networking sites plaguing the web today, Facebook really leaves a mark in our thoughts and is close to our hearts. Facebook offers so much more than the real world can offer. With this site we can rekindle friendships with our long lost friends and relatives. We can even get a glimpse of the social life of the people we idolizes and follow the events in the life of our “crushes” and loved ones. But with all this and that about Facebook, are we aware who is the founder of it ? Are we aware where did it all started and how did it survived and thrived in the web business ?

The movie ”The Social Network” shows and explains how it all begin with Facebook and answers the corresponding questions involving it. It showcases the life of the CEO, founder and creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. Mark Zuckerberg, is a student in the grandiose Harvard University taking up Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He is currently the CEO of his own company, a programmer and an entrepreneur. He is the main cast in the movie as well as the foundation of Facebook. We can pick up many lessons from this movie as well as relate to what is happening to Mark’s life. He is considered as a nerd before because he is so good in dealing with computers and a very fast speaker. But now those who degraded him is using the greatest thing Mark created.

The movie also teaches us not to exchange friendship for money. Money can be taken out from you but friends will be always there for you no matter what happens. Just like what happened to Mark and Eduardo, two best of friends argued because of money and it ended too because of it. Eduardo was a good friend to Mark. We shouldn’t also trust other people that we do not know yet. We should be careful of choosing our friends because there will be no other people that we can rely to but our friends.

Mark was also sued for the alleged “stealing” of the Facebook idea. But he was never stopped by the dire events that happened to him. He stands up and defended himself. We should also stand up in our problems and face it. Who knows, maybe will take a giant leap and be like Mark ?

I take Mark as one of my inspiration to keep on pursuing to graduate to my chosen course and be successful. He’s done it all to be what he is today. He serves as my “IDOL”.
